My travels have taken me to some amazing places, many with horrific stories.
The end of the world for the citizens of Pompei and Herculaneum arrived accompanied by tons of molten ash, pumice, and sulfuric gas on August 24, 79 AD, as Mount Vesuvius detonated with apocalyptic fury. A firestorm of poisonous vapours and molten debris engulfed the surrounding communities in a hellish nightmare of destruction. Tons of falling debris filled the streets until nothing remained of the once-thriving cities. Pompei and Herculaneum remained buried and undiscovered for almost 1700 years.
